Lost my dad

I’m finding it very hard to come to terms with the fact my dad is no longer here. Dad died of cancer on the 22nd April this year after a years battle with the disease. I was very close to my dad and I’m missing his phone calls that he made almost daily to me to check up on me to see if I was ok. I’m also struggling to come to terms with the feeling of being angry as such that he had to go in such a horrid way. I know it’s still very recent but the missing feeling doesn’t go away.

Does anyone else feel anger as such? Feel angry with the cancer that left my dad a shadow of the man he used to be and took him away from me so quickly as he deteriorated quite rapidly

Hi @Lenny73

Anger is very much part of the 7 stages of grief. Most if not everyone on here is experiencing it. I think its one of the main reasons people reach out.

Rest assured its entirely normal. Mine is more at the people that did wrong to my mum in her life rather than the illness itself but both are very similar. Our loved one is gone and we are entitled to feel angry about that.

The key is to try and balance that out with celebrating our loved ones lives.

Go ahead and list some positives about your dad that you would like to share. His good traits, his achievements, places you went together. You’ll feel better. I always find texting one of my mums friends a good way to combat anger as well. How can I get angry when people are telling me how wonderful my mum was?

Hello Lenny, so sorry for the loss of your dad. I lost my husband in March. And i do understand that anger, im angry he got sick, im angry that he suffered for 6 years, im angry that his kidney transplant wasn’t a success and especially angry that i couldn’t talk to him anymore, he passed away in the hospital after 3 weeks. They intubated him and sedated him before I could talk to him one last time. He went into a coma. I miss him so much, I did a lot for my husband, yet he still died. i understand your pain, my adult children are also having a hard time coping with the loss of their father..he was always there for his children , no matter what they needed. This site has helped me cope with the loss of my precious husband, I hope it helps you as well. May God give you strength and comfort during these difficult sad moments. God bless you :folded_hands:
