Yes, it is normal. A closer bond makes it worse. And the more time spent together, the worse, too. Having family left is something to be grateful for, but in the end it’s our relationship with that person and I also feel that they cannot help me with my own grief. Trying hard to not make the mistake to withdraw from my family (as in not sitting with them enough), as I know should one of them pass it’d be the same feeling, the same guilt for not having done enough (even if you did), etc…
Sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my Mum last September after living with her for 16 years and being her only carer for the last 3yrs. Am devastated, lonely and heartbroken. Also I have to move out as home has to be sold so an added big worry. Keeping busy helps and talking. Also making a memory box with photos, notes, letters from Mum is a help. Hope you have friends to talk to. I was such in a bubble with my Mum I dont have much. Take care. Xxx
So sorry, having to clear out the house is another extremely sad and painful thing you have to deal with. Is there no other way, hope it’s ok to ask…? Some people I spoke to seem to want to leave the house, others like me would prefer to keep things the same and rather stay in the parents’ home. Even rent out a room for a while if that’s what had to be done… It’s very very hard when caring for your mum was part of your identity, and you loved doing it. For me too those things are more important than any career. And I have to force myself to meet friends. Superficial acquaintances I never felt much enthusiasm about, the few good friends all mean well, but I realise that in the end you have to deal with your grief alone. No friends, no family can replace the one we lost.
