Lost

Hi Everyone,

I’m new here. My husband passed away unexpectedly 7 weeks ago. My heart is broken. I’ve been trying to stay strong and trying to think how to move forward.

My uncle said to me today that he was hoping I was getting back to my old self. But that’s just it. I’ve lost something I can never get back, I have to build a new me but I have totally no idea who I am anymore. How do I even start? x

Hi @SadSquirrel
I am sorry for your loss
People who haven’t lost their partner have no idea how it feels. I lost my husband suddenly 10 months ago . It really is one day at a time. Don’t look too far ahead .
I still take it one day a time , and try to keep busy. To stop my mind working overtime.
I hope your day is going as well as it can .
Keep posting on here when you feel up to it . Plenty of supportive people who all understand. It has been a lifeline for me and I hope you have the same experience.

Hello Sad Squirrel, so sorry for the loss of your husband, I don’t think anyone who has lost a loved one, especially a spouse or a child, will ever be the same again..such a loss changes everything, we are not the same anymore , part of us is lost when our loved ones passed. I lost my husband almost 5 months ago, its been the saddest loneliest days of my life. I’ve lost my best friend,..i hope you have support around you, it does help, and posting here has helped me , I hope it helps you as well, take care and God bless you :folded_hands:

Dear @SadSquirrel My husband passed away unexpectedly 5 months ago. That day the person I used to be, my future, my joy all died with him. The pain of losnig the love of your life is huge and just surviving through these times of huge pain and anguish one day at a time is a huge task. I hope you are coping reasonably well, if not please ask for help to your GP. Wishing you all the best and sending you a big hug.

Dear Sadsquirrel the idea of getting back to your old self after seven weeks is just not possible. If someone hasn’t been through this they don’t understand how unbearable life becomes after losing your loved one. My wife died seven months ago and I still cry everyday thinking about her. Things do improve. The first two or three months were the worst. It really was a matter of pushing through each day trying not to think too much just surviving but after that it does improve bit by bit. I hope you have plenty of friends and family to support you through this tough time. I found this site to be very beneficial as everyone understands the pain of a bereavement. Wishing you all the best and sending hugs

Hi sadsquirrel

I am so sorry for your loss. My husband died suddenly 6 months ago. 7 weeks is no time at all.

I find people keep trying to help me “get better” as if I am ill but this can’t be fixed.

I don’t think we can ever be the same. The absolute foundation of our lives has been ripped away. How could we not change?

I loved my life, I loved being part of “us”. I don’t know what the new me will look like. I know I have lost my naivety. I can’t imagine I will ever feel pure joy again. All I can do is try to move forward to whatever the new version of life is. At least that is what I keep trying to tell myself. I’m still waiting to take that first step.

It reminds me of my new college at work who has no clue about this kind of loss. When she saw me crying once, she said it’ll get better. But how and when nobody said… Janka

I have no family, but I have 2 best friends living 10 000 km from me and they are more supportive than those around me. If you have somebody trustworthy to lean on, it may help a lot… This forum is a blessing… I’ll never stop using that word, because it’s a real blessing for me and others in here too.. Hugs from Janka
