Me thinking out loud.

This has been on my mind for sometime. And is very much me saying it out loud.

Paula and I met about 30 years ago. Our first real holiday together was in Buckden, a small village in the Yorkshire Dales. We fell in love with the area. It’s a beautiful drive up through Grassington, Kettlewell and Starbotton. The scenery just gets more and more beautiful. We both grew up in a City and had only ever really seen scenery like that on the TV. Over the next 30 years we explored more of the Dales and surrounding area.

The dream soon became to move to Yorkshire.

About 9 years the opportunity came up and we made it. The last 9 years seem a blur. Her health steadily got worse.

I scattered her ashes in the river wharfe, Buckden. The site of our first holiday.

I drive up every week to see her. Again the beauty hits me. That first drive, with Paula, only feels like it was yesterday. Not 30 years ago. We were so young. I thought we had forever. I never thought that it would come to this. 30 years feels like a lifetime. It also feels like the blink of an eye. It wasn’t long enough.

So that’s it, that’s been playing in my head since I scattered her ashes about 4 months ago.

Thanks for listening.

I too don’t understand how i can picture Mandy at the moment we met and it feels like it just happened, but it was 19 years ago. It is all very surreal. Take care.
