My partner has full blown Aids with disseminated histoplasmosis. Fluid has been building up in his lungs starting back in December. They drained it, sent him home to attempt to do outpatient treatment with a PICC line and he did 3 treatments and then stopped. Last hospital visit had to call 911…rushed to ER…SEVERAL DAYS LATER…he AmA…said he didn’t want to die in the hospital…earlier this week I had to rush him to the ER again…this time left leg swollen bigger than the other leg…blood clots. Now they have a tube in him draining the fluid continuously. Blood thinners to dissolve the blood clots. Pulmonary Dr said the infection and draining the fluid it’s eating him alive. I’m his medical proxy. I don’t know what to do.

As Robin said ask the palliative care team for advice on the way forward and what the options are. Do it asap so you personally know what to expect and what’s possible
