Guys I just need some advice we were told today dad has lung cancer that has spread to his spine .he has severe breathing problems so he couldn’t cope with any treatment.problem is he wants to go home for his palliative care but he’s so confused I’ve seen a difference in the last few days with his confusion talking to people who are not there .because they only speak to dad for 2 mins they say he’s ok to make this decision. I’m just so scared that the house is not suitable and about his confusion .he needs 24 hour care what do I do know ??
Firstly I’m so sorry you are in this position. With my mum for palliative care at home we were advised consider if you need a Nurse in the middle of the night. They can’t be there immediately but they can be if in a hospice/ Hospital. However was it your dad’s wish before any confusion impacted?
Tbh we’ve never discussed it he has been going down hill for a few months back and for to the drs etc .he’s massively declined over the last week whether it’s the meds or just being in hospital. I just want the best for him and also want to let him have his wishes . My worry is the team won’t listen to me and just carry on sending him home
Can I ask where your dad is now? Is he in the hospital now? Have they advised Fast Track?
My husband had lung cancer which spread to his spine
He had end of life care at home. I had nurses who came in 2 to 3 times a week at night to sit with him so i could rest. This was organised through marie clare and the hospice hope this helps a bit
He’s still in hospital .he lives on his own as well which worries us .what is fast track ??
Hi Mand1,
My mum was in hosp in end of life for 3 weeks. I stayed with her 24/7.
I took her home and stayed with her. She passed 3 weeks later.
I had the help of Palliative care carers 3 times a day. Marie Curie can also help you.
Not sure where you live but I am in Wales. I expect it depends on what’s available where you live
Thinking of you
Deborah
They have to listen to the family concerns
