Pension

I checked my bank balance today. They paid final part-pension for my husband. He inconveniently died part way through the month. They also sent a letter saying that I am not entitled to any of his pension. Fair enough, I thought, I was not actually expecting anything. But then I got to thinking, he had only been getting a pension for three years, having paid into the system all his working life. Five close family members did not live long enough to be eligible for their pension, including my first husband. All had fully paid up National Insurance contributions. If they had banked that money instead of paying NI it would have been part of their estates and passed on to their spouses or children. This doesn’t seem fair, as I have said, I was not expecting any of his pension, it hadn’t occurred to me to claim. Their letter must have been prompted by the “Tell Us Once” system.

Hi Willow,
That’s strange of them,I received a letter from dwp saying in the light of my wife’s death my pension was being assessed, shortly after they increased my pension by £30 pw,I also receive three quarters of her private pension.
Hope this helps Ronxx
