I am due to graduate next month and sadly my Mum and Dad will not be there since they have both passed away my Dad in December 2021 and my Mum in January 2022. I am finding it hard to cope at the moment and today I went on Facebook and my aunt has put up pictures of my Mum and Dad at her daughter’s graduation she knows I am graduating soon and seeing their pictures has really upset me.

Hi Kate, what a terrible distressing situation you’re having to cope with. Some families just don’t get it or they’re v v thoughtless. Would you not consider “muting” your Aunt for a while & adding your Mum & Dad’s photo to a special folder created for you when you are ready? Congratulations on graduating. On the day don’t forget you’re there because you worked so hard & you deserve to feel proud. Xx A
Dear Kate, im so sorry for the loss of your dear Mum and Dad, you are having to cope with so much just now. Can you possibly talk to your aunt, phone say, and gently explain to her how upsetting you’ve found seeing the photo and why? If you’re not comfortable speaking to her, then I totally echo what @Anne8 has suggested. I would hope your aunt has just been rather thoughtless, sadly, FB does not always encourage people to think of the feelings of others, only if successes and happy things. But, definitely muting or snoozing is a solution. Please accept my congratulations too on your graduation, it’s a fabulous achievement, and you’ve earned it. Your Mum and Dad would be so proud, and they will be with you in your heart and mind on the day.

How hurt you must feel Some family members are very selfish and only think of themselves…I too have had more grief from family in regards to my Sister’s passing…I am blamed for not being there for her at her end of life…total rubbish but it’s due to their own guilty conscience they feel to blame others makes it look better on them
So turn your next page and forget about them that hurt you…you have done your parents proud by achieving and Graduating…find your favourite photos and use them to show them how you have achieved…they will be looking down on you with much pride and sming faces…keep that with you throughout your onward journey in life… I know I would be be very proud of you if it was me as a parent… Remember how special your parents were and how special you are to them always…
