Sad songs as therapy?

It really wasn’t, but it’s how I’ll choose to remember it

Makes sense to me x

Blackbird by Alter Bridge

The willow, it weeps today
A breeze from the distance is calling your name
Unfurl your black wings and wait
Across the horizon, it’s coming to sweep you away
It’s coming to sweep you away

Let the wind carry you home
Blackbird, fly away
May you never be broken again

The fragile cannot endure
The wrecked and the jaded, a place so impure
The static of this cruel world
Cause some birds to fly long before they’ve seen their day
Long before they’ve seen their day

Let the wind carry you home
Blackbird, fly away
May you never be broken again
Beyond the suffering you’ve known
I hope you find your way
May you never be broken again

Ascend, may you find no resistance
Know that you made such a difference
And all you leave behind will live to the end
The cycle of suffering goes on
But the memories of you stay strong
Someday I too will fly and find you again

Let the wind carry you home
Blackbird, fly away
May you never be broken again
Beyond the suffering you’ve known
I hope you find your way
May you never be broken again
May you never be broken again

That is lovely and also my daughter loves Alter Bridge and actually named her son Myles after the lead singer!

The lyrics bring me to tears each and everytime I play it.

It’s a song I loved before Chris died, but it seems to have more meaning now.

My hope is that someday I too will fly and find him again.

I miss him to the very depths of my soul.

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I’ve been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don’t mean anything
When you’ve got no one to tell them to
It’s true, I was made for you

Just been to a Light Up a Life memorial service, and they played this song, in memory of those we loved, and who loved us. Faith Hill - There’ll You Be. I hope it brings some comfort to everyone here. xx

Hi Martyn2. I agree, the words are heartfelt. The live version is here. I didn’t know it had also been used as a soundtrack to the film Pearl Harbour: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0lcQPblO-8
Hope it hasn’t made people cry too much, as I have. xx

A friend sent me this. Brings tears, but so meaningful. I think listening (and singing) these sad songs helps us a lot, not only to release our pain but also to say all the words that we often can’t find, to express our feelings.

It made me sob and I can’t stop now

I know Paddy. It’s just seeing the words and hearing a beautiful voice, saying just how WE feel ourselves. It gets you. And it is ok to sob. Grief comes in waves. Feel however you feel, and know that the tears do stop after a little while, so you can breathe again. Sending you comfort.

I listened to “Jealous of the Angels” out of curiosity last night.

I ended up on the kitchen floor wailing :astonished:
