I have just spent a few hours trying to close my husband’s bank accounts. I explained he had died. They said they have a dedicated bereavement team who would ring me. The phone rang a few minutes later and they asked to speak to my husband.
They also want the original Grant of Probate and will not accept a copy.
They don’t make it easy, do they? The Premim Bonds people will not even speak to me because my solicitor applied for Probate and they will only speak to him.
Everything is very stressful . When i had to sort my hubbys bank account all they wanted was a copy of death certificate and it was sorted that day. How caulis of them to ask to speak to your husband . Just so much to sort out feels never ending , but it will all turn out ok just hang in there.
One wants original copy of probate, his will and death certificate by post.
Another one wants me and my son to visit the branch with photo ID as well as all the certificates. My son is named as second executor in the will.
One accepted a scanned probate certificate but still requires written instructions.
The trouble is, whilst the current account was joint, ISAs and Premium Bonds cannot be joint.
It’s all making my head spin. It’s just problems I can do without.
My husband loved messing about with online accounts.
I would sooner have a piggy bank.
Xx
For me it is complicated by not being married. Some places accept me and others want NOK.
It is never ending and bereavement brain fog makes my head ache with dealing with unhelpful staff who make mistakes and caused huge hurt. I even got a letter saying to the executors of myself and not my husband
