Silent Saturday!

Just that, really. Why do weekends have such a different feel to them? As an only child I have always been ok with my own company, but without my husband, who died 2.75years ago,I hate having nobody to talk to.

I don’t want to get to the stage where my friends think “ oh no,it’s her again”so I try to leave them in peace, but today things are tough.

Thanks for listening- I feel slightly better for getting this off my chest. Any replies would be very welcome…….

Hello blue, true friends would never feel that way, but yes it is lonely without one’s spouse, to me every day feels like a weekend., my husband passed away on a Saturday. He passed in March of this year, im also ok in my own company, but at times how I wish my husband was still here with me., even if we did hafta watch boxing, as long as I was with him.. i loved him so much and I miss him so much..

Thank you for your speedy reply. I understand perfectly how you are feeling. I haven’t posted on here very much but will do more now. Writing and knowing people just “get it” is such a relief.

I hope you have friends and family to contact. Unfortunately all mine are busy this weekend, hence my message! I thought of phoning the Silver Line but am scared of feeling even worse if I do. Onwards and upwards,I suppose….

Hi. Weekends are really tough when alone in the house. My day has felt so long today. I lost my wonderful partner in January, he had a sudden cardiac arrest, my life is so empty without him. I have sons too, but they like to go out weekends and so they should. I hope you find peace in your day, thinking of you. LJ :people_hugging:

Hi. What is Silver line ?

Hi @Blue7
You are not on your own in finding the weekends hard . There are many of us on here who find them hard . I am retired so don’t work. I seem to manage during the week by doing activities and keeping busy. The weekends are different, the days are long . And it’s hard to find things to fill your day . Look after yourself

Hi, oh wow that is wonderful. Thank you

Hi and sorry for your loss. I’m ten months in since my lovely partner passed. Together for 40 years. It’s his birthday today. My sister’s been with me today and we took flowers to the cemetery. The whole situation still feels unreal at times and I couldn’t help thinking how different the day was last year. We hadn’t a care in the world.

I have pushed myself to accept invitations from family and friends but I still have to return to an empty house. I hate being alone and not being a part of couple anymore. I still can’t look to the future as it seems bleak and lonely and I wonder how I will cope with this joyless life. George and I didn’t have kids, and my extended family is relatively small as some of the older ones have passed away now. Each day I get up and plod on, that’s the best I can manage. Take care.

Oh Norma1 I feel your loneliness I am the same, I accept invitations from family at the weekends, but when I am with them I constantly think of how it used to be and when I leave I have no one to talk to about the day, so I go back home and as you say prepare to plod on.

Hello all

It’s coming up to 3 years since my beloved husband Matt died here at home age 56 of cancer diagnosed just 5 weeks before … a Sunday on August bank holiday - so summer overall and weekends are a real struggle.

Like others, I don’t like being a bother to all the couples we used to hang out with and many have fallen silent over time , assuming I’m ok or just too busy to find out … but those who are real friends have made themselves known.

I try to book things ahead to do now at weekends- things I can join with others on my own and make new friends . Book clubs, poetry hubs, workshops, cinema trips and getting up to date with boring admin and housework to give me more time in the week when friends might be around .

It’s a different way of living than I was used to but then everything has changed .

Big love to all who are coping with the changes that bereavement brings . Know you’re not alone

lightMary68 - I’ve found it easier not to say goodbye but to live as we’re still connected - send messages to his WhatsApp regularly- photos too like when our kids graduated ; got engaged etc .

Also easier to visit places we enjoyed as time goes on … taking a photo of him in my bag ; talking to him in the car when no one else can accuse me of losing it!

Pets have helped - got a new male kitten same colouring ( ginger and white ) I often refer to as Matt in a cat …

It’s the communication and living with someone who knew me better than I knew myself that I miss the most regularly but I find ways through . Grateful for the time and memories we shared which pass so many people by.

Hang in there . The aching loss does get less intense over time and you learn to smile and experience life on their behalf too . The love helps you do that x

You are all lucky! I have no invitation, because I have no family. I live all alone in a foreign country, working hard, fighting for everything, because my husband’s adoptive family took my car, they want to get my house and put me on the street. I only know a few people here who could help me in urgent needs and two best friends of mine living 10 000 km from me. God bless you all! Janka

Hello Blue7

I know how you feel - I am lonely even with family and friends around. It’s just that confidence with having my husband around, has gone. He accepted me with unconditional love and had my back if you know what I mean. He would have been 80 in a few days time but family are supporting me with his birthday so maybe I shouldn’t complain.

Hello Rose 25

Thank you for your reply. I agree completely with all you say about loneliness and loss of confidence. And as for making decisions, well!
I hope you can think of the good times on your husband’s birthday, and that you will have love and support on a very poignant anniversary. I send you all good wishes.

….send you all good wishes.

Not sure what happened with typeface and split message- my apologies-I am fairly new here…..

I feel the same - I think it’s because weekends are a time when families/couples spend round together. Also friends who’ve been supportive have their own plans for the weekend. After a couple of years I did find a friend in a similar situation and we now exchange Sunday teas and a natter at each other’s houses. There must be lots of people like us - it’s just finding the right one.
