Good luck!

Planning to do a camping/b&b road trip around Scotland next year with my dog (sheā€™ll be 1 by then). I know camping isnā€™t for everyone and I thought my camping days were over but the good thing about camping is it is relatively cheap and people are usually very friendly and chatty. It is also giving me something to focus on for next year. Thereā€™s a route called the North Coast 500 that I will be following. It may take 2 or 3 weeks but as Iā€™m retired I can take as long as I need and if it all getā€™s too much for me I can just come home. I find it difficult revisiting places I went to with my wife so this will all be new.

Sounds good for you, but I hate camping!

Iā€™ve had a look at the routes and it looks a really good idea, (although I would go with the b&b option!) Freedom, great food and a brand new adventure, something to look forward to.

My daughter and partner have 4000 acres, 35 miles from Inverness. Really rugged and beautiful. It is very beautiful

You have to pay for a room whether thereā€™s 1 or 2 in it. Have said to other half iā€™ll pay for the room all you need is pay your travel but he says if he cant pay his way he wonā€™t go. he doesnā€™t pay bills, food etc in our house so think he simply doesnā€™t want to go on holiday.

I love camping, we did lots of holidays in tents and campervans. You can do a mixture of hotels and camping that way you get to enjoy abit of comfort for you and the dog. I am also doing holidays to places we never went as it means Iā€™m making new memories and not trying to relive the old ones.
I am in Edinburgh with a friend in December for 3 nights so should be fun.

Exactly. I was thinking 3 nights camping to 1 night B&B (preferably dog friendly pub/Inn). Camping equipment seems to have moved on a bit since I last did it. I have bought an inflatable tent/awning, so no poles and only takes minutes to put up and down, which is what you want if only staying a night. Iā€™m finding planning the trip is helping even if for some reason I donā€™t end up going, but I think I will.

You need to go now, we had an inflatable tent they are brilliant. Go and do something that you wouldnt normally do. My daughter wild camps with her 1 year old and she loves it

My son bought inflatable tent and we put it in the garden to practice. Easy to put up. Tricky to get air out and get it in the bag. Bit like a comedy carry on film!!!
I once slept in the car.
Easier and couldnā€™t find a cheap b and B.
I rigged up a kinda tent in the car was before the blackened windows scene came out. Put seats down, lilo and sleeping bag.

Some of the pumps deflate as well as inflate, which can make it easier especially if on your own.

Iā€™m going to write a list of places I want to visit, then work my way through it over the next few years.
Iā€™m doing a uk list that I can take the Dog and europe list for longer breaks.

This should get me motivated once Iā€™m told I can travel again.

That sounds a good idea. There are so many places to discover in the UK. After Scotland I was thinking of looking at Wales, maybe Anglesey. Today is my first break without my wife. Spending one night at a pub in Orford with friends (two other couples). Having a quiet drink in the bar on my own at the moment, but starting to get used to my own company. Amazing how much of an ice breaker a dog is in a pub, so many people come up and ask to make a fuss of her.

With me I donā€™t have official census if I can drive it is myself that does that. I canā€™t do stressy and that prevents me. Before someone leaps in and says public transport it is that too. It was really good on the roads in the pandemic. ā¹

Well done. Sometimes you just have to take a deep breath and go for it.

Well done. Iā€™m off to German Christmas markets in a couple of weeks with leger solo and Italy with them next summer. Having already been on one of their holidays I must say how easy I found it, I didnā€™t have to think as everything was planned for me. Enjoy your holiday next year. Gail

I went with shearings in May but loved the extra space on Leger coaches, Iā€™ve had to wait as on chemo treatment but all ok for May. I hope to get away later in the year witj them as well. Enjoy your Christmas market trip.
