Dear Claire,

I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. It must be very difficult to be there for your children while dealing with your own grief. It is important though that whilst you are supporting your children you get support for yourself, too. I’m glad that you have found this Online Community, as many of our users find that it helps a little to be able to share their feelings and get support from others with similar experiences.

Here are a few suggestions for supporting your child:

Mosaic is a Dorset charity that offers help, advice, and residential weekends for bereaved children, young people, and their families. (01258) 837071
http://www.mosaicfamilysupport.org.uk/index.asp

Winston’s Wish is an organisation that offers advice on supporting bereaved children. You can call their helpline on 08088 020 021.
https://www.winstonswish.org.uk/

Child Bereavement UK also helps bereaved children and young people. You can call their helpline on 0800 02 888 40.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes,

Hi Claire

Not sure but I think the BBC programme about Rio Ferdinand coping with the loss of his wife mentioned some support groups for young people. He had concerns about his children and how they were coping. Might be worth looking at the BBC website or seeing if you can get it on i-player. I thought it was a good programme and worth watching anyway.

Hi Claire,

I’m sorry to hear that you could only have 6 weeks of counseling through Mosaic. I would try and call the two helplines I suggested from Winston’s Wish (08088 020 021) and Child Bereavement UK (0800 02 888 40). It might also be worth contacting Cruse Bereavement Care Community Centre in Somerset (01458 898211): http://www.cruse.org.uk/somerset-area-map
Your son might also find this website useful: http://hopeagain.org.uk/

Please let me know if any of this helps.

Best wishes,

Irene
