My vicars husband read this poem at the burial. My husband wrote it when we were engaged but living many miles apart. The charity he was working for at the time arranged that he was able to visit every fortnight as otherwise he wasn’t able to work!
LONGING
Longing to see you again,
Longing to hold you
To wrap my arms about you
To touch you again.
If I could stretch the miles of land and sea
It would only be
To see you with my finger tips
To caress
Or feel the glow of your smile running through me
Taking away the loneliness and heartache of longing.
What a beautiful poem. It’s little things, well they would appear little to some, like this which enable us to retain that connection however long it has been since they left. My husband went into hospital on 20th January 2023 and never came home, I just watched him fade away and then he was gone on 11th February. In a couple of weeks, 30th August, it would have been our 46th anniversary so I plan to remember him with a special bottle of wine which I picked up on my last excursion to Italy. Gail
Hi Nina2 It’s a lovely poem. I lost my partner Theresa in March, we were together 35years, Theresa went into hospital with a chest infection, tion and low oxygen levels this was the 21st Feb, she sadly passed away on the 2nd of March ,she was told on the Wed her infection was going in the right direction and they were hoping to get her home at the start of the week, she had picked up the cdiff bug and passed the following Tuesday. I also wrote a poem for her, which has now been made into e very emotional song by Ai
I cried so many tears
The day you passed away
You were always in my heart
That’s where you will stay
Those first few days you left me
Just seemed so unreal
Wishing you were still with me
To tell you how I feel
I can’t stop crying
When I think of you
I can’t stop crying
Nothing I can do
In all our years together
None were really bad
Apart from family passings
That always made us sad
Half my life was spent
Together with you
Wish we could have had more time
So much more to do
I cry so many tears each day
I,LL cry so many more
Knowing that I,LL never see you
Walk back through our door
