Things change

A few months ago I heard “The Way It Is” by Bruce Hornsby - extremely moving (imho) piano and vocal music. So emotional I had to keep switching it off. The sound and title made me cry.

Now, things have changed dramatically and I’m actually trying to play it on the piano! I am still moved by the music but the concentration required to learn and play is an amazing distraction. It really is helping me, nearly ten months on.

Hello Bonnie3

Bruce Hornsby is a fantastic pianist, lyricist and musician. I love listening to The Way It Is, too.

The piano at the beginning is so melancholic, but mesmerising at the same time.

Me and mam had our playlists that we always used to listen to and Bruce Hornsby was a key feature in them. Mam used to say: It’s lovely Stephen, but it makes me feel sad a bit. God bless mam. We both love our music.

Well done and good luck learning the song on piano. It is time well spent. I admire anyone who can play an instrument, particularly the piano.

God bless and warmest wishes.Stephen.

Thank you so much Stephen. The song is there, at the back of my mind, almost constantly. I haven’t had lessons for decades and I’m actually re- learning on a “community “ piano. People come in and say how they like hearing me!! I’m now thinking of buying a piano keyboard ………
Kindest wishes,
Bonnie

Hello Bonnie.

I think buying a piano keyboard is a great idea. Keep practising and a great thing to do. My beloved mam had piano lessons in the 1940s into the 50s. My grandma and grandad saved up and bought her a second hand upright piano. It was still in my grandparents front room into the early 1970s.

Sending you all my best wishes. Stephen.

For me, it’s the song ‘Now and Then’, by The Beatles.
