So much is going on at the moment. I don’t know where to turn. or where to go for help. My father died two days ago from cancer, which was diagnosed only eight weeks ago. My mother has dementia and I have had to put her into a home very quickly when my father became ill and died. My father-in-law has now been diagnosed with leukaemia and we are unsure whether he will survive. He needs to have 6 to 8 weeks of treatment initially. My husband is really struggling and getting depressed, as am I. and I don’t know where to turn next.
Hi @Sallyt1275,
Thank you for having the courage to reach out. I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your dad only two days ago, especially after such a short time between his diagnosis and his death. I’m also sorry to hear that your mum has dementia and that you had to move her into a home quickly, and that your father-in-law has been diagnosed with leukaemia.
It sounds like you are carrying a huge amount at the moment. Losing your dad, supporting your mum through a significant change, and uncertainty about your father-in-law’s health would be overwhelming for anyone. It’s completely understandable that both you and your husband are struggling.
You are not alone. I’m not sure if you’ve had a look through our Losing a parent category. But there you can connect with other members who are living with grief after losing a parent.
