What to do every evening

Think about finding a good series on Netflix to get hooked onto. These series often have loads of episodes and a couple of episodes each night will fill your evening and last for a good few weeks. If you like reading find a good book you can lose yourself in. There’s also, as someone else already suggested, talk shows and pod casts. I like to listen to radio chat shows Some of the topics are very interesting and keep you occupied. For those who can crochet or knit that’s an option. My sister in law finds this helps to pass the time and she also buys adult colouring books and works on them.

Having said all the above, it’s only a temporary fix to get through the lonely hours but we do have to get through the hours and the winter months are now looming ahead. Those long dark nights are a source of dread for me. Our lives are never going to be the same, our loved ones are gone but I hope that everyone out there can find a way through the dreary days ahead. It’s more a case of self survival than anything else.

Thank you I use to do crafting making cards and thing but I just can’t get back in to it but I will try the others thank you everything is a help and I agree not looking forward to the long night x

Hi
Most of you might groan at my suggestion but in the evening I go out for walkies with the dogs. I go to a local recreation area and chat to other dog walkers.
My husband died just before Christmas and I liked to walk the streets in the dark and look at the Christmas lights in windows and the trees. Sounds a bit strange now but it did bring me comfort.
I agree with Sakinah suggestion find a good Netflix series. I did and it became my ‘comfort blanket’ I now have a couple of them and If I feel low I just watch one of them. Probably for the third time around but who cares.
Please don’t convince yourselves that the winter and all it brings is going to be a thing of dread. There are plenty of options to keep occupied if you are prepared to adapt.
bless xxxx

Like yourself my dog gets me out of the house and it’s amazing how many conversations you can have during a dog walking with fellow dog owners.
Regarding the Christmas light, I love doing that too. Whether I will do it this year is another hurdle I have to negotiate as it was something I did with my husband.
I’m not sure I will be strong enough emotionally to do it this year as it will be my first Christmas without Martin

Hi Dee
What a true blessing are our dogs. Their love and companionship is something we hang onto. Giving us a reason to get out of bed and face the world. A walk with the dogs will always mean a conversation with someone.
I did my Christmas lights walks only weeks after Brian died and it did help me to see the bright lights and trees as it reminded me of happiness. I have done it since and found that pushing ourselves to accomplish things that we dread having to do again can be an achievement in itself. It gives us the confidence to try other things that we know will be difficult. It’s another step forward. So good luck to you.
