CREATING A SHRINE FOR MY MAM

Hi christine51, making a veg soup is a great idea. (Why have I not thought of it?) I just looked at a Russell Hobbs 21480 on the internet, only £40. - A stock cube is much better than salty water, the taste is also much better.

Do you still have the opportunity to speak German?

Yes, I always look at your photos. How big is your garden? How quickly do these plants grow? I do not have any green fingers and I do not know any of your plants name. Our mother always used to look after all the plants. - Fixing a car is much easier. Well, not now since my brother passed. It is not fun any more.

A hug from a hun, Nick.

Hi Debbie57, yes, salty food is not a good idea if you have high blood pressure. - I will switch to veg soup and stock cubes as Christine recommended. I do not throw up but had some close calls falling. I also used to walk into door frames or walls. I fell once but was lucky and fell onto the bed. I nearly fell against the TV. It would have been difficult getting up again. (There is not much space between the bed and the TV.) I definitely do not want to fall and brake something. (Just too old for that.) (A neighbour fell and broke a hip.) - I too have the swerving and tilting to one side (normally the left). I often walk into something like a door frames or a garage wall. - You wrote “it could be stress and anxiety that cause it”. Have not thought about it but it makes sense. I am not much of a drinker, but I have emptied some bottles of whiskey since my brother died. I never drink much and I have not been drunk since the 70s. - I just have looked up Meniere’s disease. “It can cause vertigo, tinnitus, hearing loss, and a feeling of pressure deep inside the ear.” It does describe the symptoms in my left ear. I think I have to talk to my GP again. - It is not nice getting old! - Nick

Hello Nick.

Nick I hope your ear problem isnt getting you down. I suffer from awful Tinnitus day and night. It’s dreadful. I remember going to see a musical once and being close to the stage and speaker system and from that night it hasn’t stopped for a second in 30 odd years.

Hope this evening had treated you kindly.

Love and best wishes xx

Hi Tina19, I have had the Tinnitus for many months now. It was painful at first and can still feel a pressure, especially when I am yawning. - Thirty years is a long long time. How do you cope? - I still have hope that it will get a little better over time. - Nick

Hi Palou and Neil

I’m so sorry Palou that you’ve had some difficult days. Once the feelings and thoughts descend it’s really hard to shake them isn’t i. It’s like one wave has to burn itself out in order to give us that bit of an interval to catch our breath to deal with the next. Somehow we manage, don’t always know how but we do.
Thanks for commenting about the garden. It’s in a right state really as there always seems to be alterations and mess with something. Is gardening something you enjoy Palou?

I hope today is a bit better.

Love and Best Wishes xx

Hi Neil
I’m sorry you had that bad experience with the theatre friends, you can’t quite credit it can you. Hopefully they’ll have time to reflect.

Hope you have a good Thursday

Hi Tina,
So pleased to see you. I sent off your root cuttings for the honey bush so I hope it’s with you by tomorrow (didn’t know post collection was 12 noon).
I’ll be thinking of you today with your mammogram. I remember how painful that was, boobs being squidged between the machine. But it is worth getting it done. My breast cancer was so random at 25. Even the GP said I was too young. It’s strange the things you get used to. Having no boobs does make me look and feel deformed and if I bang into something it hurts because there’s no cushioning and just bone.
You did make me laugh with the 2 legged rat in the loft! I just can’t believe what he has done. Because there’s been no punishment there’s no closure. The fact that I’m the one hiding while he struts around with his noisy power tools sums up the injustice. When he’s at work I have a sense of freedom. But it is short lived because he will always be here.
I’ll be getting my last trellis delivered today so hope I get it painted and the posts before it starts raining for the next week. Always happens. I also need to cut it into 3 panels. Hope to get an early delivery. Means I can pop out between showers to finish the job. It does make all the difference with the fence up. But he was lurking in silence behind the fence which was very unnerving. All I can do is try to enjoy what I have created. Otherwise I’ll be stuck in the house and that makes me feel worse.
So sorry to hear you are pre diabetic again. Mam was and would carry a peanut butter sandwich around with her on hospital trips. It always made me laugh. I wish I’d researched what she should have been doing but she did have loads of info from the GP. I shouldn’t have taken cakes and nibbles over when I’d pop into the garage on the way. I miss my old life with her.
It will be so hard today going back to the hospital. When I went for tests at my local one (which mam had never been to) it made me cry thinking of all the times she went on her own in the ambulance and then had to wait for transport to come back. Don’t know why dad didn’t collect her in the car. I’ll be thinking of you. Let me know when you get back. If I don’t reply straight away it’s because I’m painting. My fingers are swollen and hands are rough like sand paper. I’ll be glad when it rains so I can’t go out there!
I have more pics to post later so do pop in. I’m still trying to catch up. Really don’t know how it’s May already. All I want is for time to stand still. It seems so unfair that life rolls on as normal without her in the world. All I want is to not exist so I can join her. I was pleased with my little mam angel. The robins have abandoned the buddha head, chased away by the cat, Bud. He was always lurking and I would be chasing him away around the garden. He’s not been back again. Hope he didn’t get any babies. I was looking forward to hearing them chirping. I’ve seen the robin parents so know they’re ok. I’ll be able to take away the wire grids that were protecting the nest and create structures for the plants.
Porsch has gone back to her drawer until I get up and about. She insisted on going out the other morning even though it was chilly. Had to wrap her in a blanket.
Good luck today and I’m glad that you’re going and just not bothering. Maybe’s get yourself a treat for going (not a sweet treat re diabetes but something to mark the occasion of ‘victory’).
See you later x
Oh, I painted my blocks and will do the windows today so will have pics for you. Going to create a little village in the tree overhanging the pond.

Hi Nick,
That’s a great price for a soup maker. I think the one I got on Amazon was about £70 and I’ve been through 3 of them over a couple of years! I add turmeric powder which is great for high iron in the blood (I’ve been referred to hematology for investigation as they can’t work out why). It’s worth googling spices to treat conditions. Adding a little goodness into a diet is beneficial over time. I never used to eat veg but feel so much better now I do. And when I treat myself I feel less guilty!
It’s a shame I stopped doing German from about the third year. I moved school and they only did French. I got O’ level but don’t speak it. Holidays were mostly Canary Islands so didn’t really holiday in France to try out the lingo.
My love of gardening for myself is an extension of having helped my parents with their garden. We’ve always had lovely gardens, with fruits for jam, veg and cut flowers. The old house was always full of dahlias and I’d come home with a huge bunch of summer flowers for myself. I miss doing it for them. I find gardening enriching. It’s not exactly soothing, given the hard work I’ve been doing. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in with my secateurs. I love weeding. That is therapeutic, to see a space cleared that was overrun with weeds.
You made me smile with the fixing a car is easier. I’ve always worked on the cars with my dad, getting underneath and following instruction for whatever it was. Don’t know if I could change a wheel now but I used to. I’ve lost interest in cars now. It gets me from A to B. I have a 7 seater where the seats all fold down. It’s great for getting things to the skip and for bikes. Still need to clean my bike change of rust so I can start getting out to the park again.
Life isn’t fun now. The only time I do laugh is when I’m with my niece and little nephew swimming. He has learned lots of rude jokes to tell me which are quite shocking given his age! Hope to see them Sunday.
Good luck with your soup. I buy frozen veg and thaw it out with a bowl of hot water. If you buy tupperware cartons (like the plastic takeaway boxes) it’s great to freeze and take out the day before. I love being organised and this helps me not have to think of food when I come in from the garden late on.
I’ll have more pics to post later so will see you again soon. Must dash now to get dressed as I have my trellis delivery from 10. Hope it arrives early so I can get it painted before it rains tomorrow.

Hi Neil,
Enjoy your day out today. Looking forward to seeing your pics!
Really have to rush now so I’m dressed for my trellis delivery. More painting today. My fingers are like sausages and throbbing so not looking forward to it but if I get it done it will be ready to ‘pop up’ (if only it were that easy!) between showers.
Have your theatre pals been in touch? Shame on them.

Hi Nick, Love your pics. My sister up north and her family used to be part of a theatrical thing where they dressed in original costume and lived as they would have in the past. Can’t remember which era. They were on tv but it was years ago. They really enjoyed it and the kids were involved too. I’m always fascinated by costume through the ages and how it has evolved for today. My fave is the man with the pots. His hat reminds me of my raving days in Liverpool! Good times. It’s no wonder people were shorter then carrying all that weight of fabric. It was a running joke that mam was getting shorter each year by half an inch.
I’ve had a very productive day again in the garden. Got gravel stones delivered and laid them before the trellis and posts delivery which I managed to get painted. I also got another couple of bamboo rolls up so my next job will be to cut the trellis into 3 parts and add some 2x2’s to make up the shortfall in size. Also got 2 arches put together to create doorways into the old shed area newly planted. I have pics but will post tomorrow as I’m so very shattered. Porsch enjoyed a little snuggle under the blanket with me before we came in. Been another long day but I achieved everything I set out to do. Pushing myself now means I can relax when summer hits. Can’t quite believe nearly half a year is gone again. Winter seemed to drag on and now things have speeded up.
Did you get out again for a walk in the park? I haven’t been swimming for ages. Hope to go Sunday with my niece / nephew.
Will pop in tomorrow with garden pics.

Hi everyone.
A few pics from yesterday. I visited the rooftop garden at The Garden At 120 in Fenchurch ( right next to the Sky Garden) with clear views of St Pauls, Tower Bridge and the Tower
Next up saw the Donatello and Korean Wave exhibitions at the V&A museum. Also finally saw the Theatre/Performance gallery. All great and had a lovely, if rather tiring ( it was worth it) day!
Hope you are all ready to get through another Bank Holiday . I found it tough last week myself . Coronation tomorrow on BBC channels as they always do with big events. Still got sport on and theatre carries on normally too.
Sending love and best wishes to you all
Neil x

Hello Christine

Thank you so very much for the cutting. I saw the postman come and had emptied the box when he went so I’ve put it into some soil in a transparent container so I can keep an eye on it! I so hope it takes. Keeping fingers crossed.

I went for the mammogram and it did hurt this time. Never usually does. I decided to walk there and back and it was 2 miles each way. Otherwise it would have been two buses which sounds ridiculous when you consider the Hospital in the next town is 8 miles away but would be doorstep to doorstep service on an ArrivaBus service, plus cheaper! As it was a mobile unit there were no loos so I had to actually go inside the main hospital which I felt uncomfortable about but needs must! On the way back I called at Aldi, Home Bargains, Farmfoods, B&M, Quality Save and Asda so I was knackered when I got home and my knees were giving in! Saying that I needed one or two extra items so went to Asda this morning at 7.30am. There was no way I was going to go later as it was already getting busy with crowds shopping for their Coronation parties etc. I’ll watch it because it’s an important historical event but not out of enthusiasm. It’s a bit of a farce to be honest with the Royal family at odds with each other. If we can’t look to the Royal family for standards who can we!

Sorry to hear Roland Rat is skulking about with his hammer and still etc. What a situation. He wouldn’t even have to speak or make a noise to create an oppressive atmosphere. You should have a pretend “loud” conversation on your phone full of untrue nonsense and see how long it takes him to spread it around, as they usually do then he’ll look a right idiot!

Going to have some lunch then doing some more straightening in the garden. I will see if there is anything I can photograph!

I have found this lovely garden craft idea on TikTok. I will post a photo of it later.

Thanks for the cutting again.

I’ll get back later
Much love xx

Hi Christine, thank you from me too, my cutting arrived today. I bet the postman smiled when he saw your envelope.
I don’t have an growth hormone, but seen on the internet if you put the cutting in honey diluted with hot water, obviously wait until it cools first then that works just as well. I give it a try, if no roots appear just put it in compost.
Speak to you later

Hi Neil, the view from the roof top garden is very impressive, glad you had a good day out even if it was tiring. Made up for the bad football result for you.
I hope this weekend is a little kinder to you, I will watch the service tomorrow, as I didn’t see the Queen’s (wasn’t born) and I might not live long enough to see another one. What ever people likes or dislikes about the royal family it’s our history and heritage.
I’m off to messy church later we are making crowns of course, then our street is having a buffet lunch on Sunday afternoon in our community rooms so it does not matter if it rains. Monday our church is hosting a big lunch, just bring a plate of food and share.
I’m just glad of the time away from work.
Sending love

Hi Christine

I had meant to show a picture of this crafting I had seen on TikTok.

Apparently it’s chicken wire attached to a wooden frame with glass beads loosely fixed. They cast rainbows everywhere. I may try to make a variation as they look so pretty.

There tons of crafting ideas on TikTok and I enjoy looking although sometimes I end up coming across funny German Shepherd videos and a whole hour has passed me by!

Hi Neil,
WOW! Your pics from the rooftop garden are fab. The buildings are like beautiful sculptures. I love architecture (The ‘Mother’ of Art). The more ‘simple’ it appears the more intricate the detail. I’d never really thought of the colour palette before. It is quite ‘beach’ in tone. Thank you for sharing!
Love that you’ve had a splendid day. I always admire you getting out and enjoying what you love. My swimming was cancelled with my niece and I only found out when I suggested Sunday so that I could watch the coronation today. She didn’t tell me she was seeing her boyfriend and it’s full time so unless we can work out a schedule to meet during the week I just won’t see her at all or my nephew. Glad I didn’t plan a little garden party for the coronation as mam would have done. Trying not to get upset about today. Saved cleaning the fishtank while I watch it as it’s quite soothing and will keep me focused, rather than just sitting as I did with the Queen’s funeral. It’s so very sad that mam didn’t get to see Charles crowned. I never really had any interest in it before but do now on her behalf.
Did you get any nice nibbles in for the event? I didn’t as making more of a celebration of it makes it more upsetting for me. Don’t even know what time it’s on.
Creep is lurking at his van. He’s placed his bin hard up against the hedge in front of my camera (he knows it’s there). Seems like he’s deliberately going in and out of the bin and faffing about. I’m still in bed with the light on. This is what he does. Then sits in the van for a while. Hope he buggars off for the day.
I got lots done yesterday again. Cut my trellis down into 3 and fixed more to it. Will post pics later. Got a post up and secured to the fence in prep for another trellis going up. Cut the palette the gravel stones were delivered on to make a seat for the brolly area. Love to recycle and its free! Potted up my dahlias, wallflower and lilly seeds. Prepared pots for plants I’m waiting to receive. Ordered more compost. So a good day. It’s when I stop that I get upset.
Hope today isn’t too upsetting for all of us.
Will pop back with pics later on.
