It’s now been over a year since my partners passing. I still speak to her during the day, and before I go to bed. I don’t think I will court again but a companion for days out , Xmas times and keeping company. I’m afraid my love left me when my partner passed and falling in love again I think would be out of the question..
Hello Dave51, I know what you mean, its still early for me, my husband passed 11 weeks ago, but I cannot even begin to imagine me falling in love with someone else, even writing those words is hard.
I have already met the man I was supposed to marry and fall in love with..and that’s it. Until we meet again in heaven. May God bless you ![]()
Hi Dave,
I know exactly how you’re feeling. My partner of 21 years passed away suddenly in May 2025. There was no illness or warning. During the week, I seem to cope because I have work to keep me busy, but weekends are the hardest. Sometimes I go out with a friend, but she has a child and a partner, so it’s only natural that she wants to spend time with her family. Other than that, I have my two dogs, but I miss having someone to talk to. Even when I’m watching a movie, there’s no one to laugh with or share a meal with. It’s the little things that used to put a smile on my face that I miss the most. Life has become lonely and sad most of the time. Last Christmas, the first one without Marek, I spent with my dad, who had visited me for a few months, but I know for a fact I will be on my own this year.
Morning @Dave-51
I understand how you feel, I feel the same I lost my husband 8 months ago . I am certainly not ready for a new relationship. I have been to quite a talking tables . I haven’t formed any friendships there . I going to join the A 3 A today . Have you joined any friendships group?
I agree, my lovely partner of 40 years died last September. He was the love of my life, no one could compare to him. I can understand the need for companionship especially when you are younger but I just couldn’t contemplate that, even though I m so lonely. If there’s an afterlife I hope we will be reunited again.
Yes, it’s the little everyday things I miss most since my partner died suddenly, last September. When I was out with friends I looked forward to coming home to him. He was my rock. I miss his cooking (Greek) and his beautiful smile which lit up his whole face. Christmas was awful but I tried to mask my feelings because I was at my sister’s. The worst thing was when they were all opening their presents and being happy. It sounds selfish as life goes on for everyone else, but in that moment I just wanted to die. I hope you eventually find some peace.
I completely understand Noreen. Only we, can know and feel our pain and loss. Other people’s lives have not been touched or affected by our tragedy. They can happily carry on oblivious to our daily suffering and torment, whether it’s Christmas, birthdays or going on holiday… whatever it is. I lost my beloved and precious husband last June to cancer. Christmas was non-existent. I wasn’t, and still am not interested in anything. It was just another day to somehow get through. Sadly, grief is a very lonely business.
Take care.

Hello Norma1, reading your post reminds me of myself, when I would go out with friends for lunch or shopping, I couldn’t wait to get back home to my husband, he was also my rock. My best friend, my everything. I miss him deeply ![]()
@Norma1 so true! I was with my husband for 27 years - all bar a couple of years half my life. He was my soul mate. Even though I’m broken, I feel so lucky to have had 27 years of what a lot of people spend their whole life looking for. There will never be anyone else for me - I have friends and family - and that’s one of the very few things I feel of comfort and certainty going forward.

Thank you for all your replies.
I have mixed feelings on moving forward forming new relationships. Although I miss my husband of 47 years married, (together for 50 years), and the sharing of our family and life altogether, equally I don’t like living alone. I’ve never lived alone. I met my husband when I was 18 and been together till his passing. It’s been an incredibly difficult journey for me thus far, but we are both Christian’s and faith and family have been my anchor. My family are wonderful and I have grandchildren, but it’s not enough. They have their own families and lives to lead. I’m in my 60.s and very active . It’s 5 months now since his passing and I’m still grieving but loneliness is the biggest issue for me right now. I know I’m still adjusting, (if that’s the right word,) but feel I need to take some positive steps in this new identity, which I don’t like. So I’ve taken a deep breath and booked a solo cruise late autumn, simply because no one can accompany me. It was something we both enjoyed and feel my husband wouldn’t want my life to be put on hold. I want to find joy again and not just rely on family. I have some female friends but they are all married which, makes me feel more isolated. The cruise I booked host solo get together so opportunity to mix or not with single people. Moving forward I’ve decided that I’m not going to close the door on forming friendships with both sexes. It will only be friendships though as I only have one husband and he’s in heaven and that’s where I intend to join him one day. Although Jesus tells us there is no marriage in heaven, we can expect to be reunited with loved ones who will be waiting to greet us when it’s our time. Grief and moving forward is a personal journey for us all. Take care!
I hope you really enjoy your trip, postcard please. Enjoy.
Hi @Alicia2
Well done for taking the first step with your cruise. I really hope you enjoy it . Let us know how you get on .
Hello Alicia2, I admire you for going solo on this trip, I could never go alone anywhere..as far as a trip I mean. We have a lot in commo.. its been 3 months for me that I lost my husband. I have grown children. Grandchildren who I adore, but like you said, its not enough. They have their own lives. I want to be with my husband . And i also still have a husband. Hes just hanging out in heaven until I can be with him again …take care, and have fun on your trip. And may God bless you ![]()
Hello light Mary,
Thank you for your kind comments. I will let the group know how my cruise goes. God bless!
I thought I was moving on. During the past couple of weeks I’ve started painting again. Deep joy! Plus I’ve had Dire Straits playing in the background. Suddenly I remembered that he used to love seeing me paint. Floods of tears. But I don’t want to give up painting, it’s my escape route.
Hi @Bonnie3
It’s good you’ve started painting again, I believe it is therapeutic. Sometimes you have to let the tears come . I hope you can find a way round it . You clearly enjoy your painting.
Hi, I ve had to abandon trying to sort out my partner’s stuff in his study. It’s just too upsetting. He died eight months ago. I keep on finding little nick naks and momentos from our earlier years and it breaks my heart all over again. I played a song on utube yesterday. It was always on the radio last time we were in Cyprus, his birthplace. I just broke down. I’m not good with music or photos, they just upset me.
Just do things when you feel stronger, I’m just over a year since my loss. I understand how u feel because I still have clothing and still have a nightdress under her pillow. It’s going to get easier because I felt exactly like you feel. There’s lots of songs we shared. You will get stronger. Love and blessings to you.
@Alicia2 that’s an inspiring post, taking that leap of faith to do a solo cruise! I didn’t know there was such a thing, wouldn’t mind trying that myself
I have been on holidays alone before, it really is enjoyable as you get the freedom to choose what you like to do, whether sight seeing or a lazy day, on your own timetable. And you are never alone as you do end up make friends along the way ![]()
One of the best times was a group karaoke, with a bunch of us that only just met, none of us even knew each other!
I’m sure you’ll make plenty of new friends ![]()
