I agree with Lyn, it sounds a little confusing to me too.I have never been to a spiritualist church , i am very tempted to try but living in a rural area and buses being so infrequent the nearest is a fair distance.I will try one day though.i have never been to a medium but i have read many books written by mediums, some books better than others.i have watched some Youtube videos too.i think you were right going there with zero expectations.I have often read in books that quite often the person that comes through was not the one we were expecting.I personally think you have to have sort of clear evidence from spirit, something only yourself would know.Sometimes a message may come through and it might not make much sense at the time.Sometimes you may have to ask a family member to confirm something about what was said.As you said it sounds like some of the things the medium mentioned could have resonated with other people. It was a good idea to make a note of things said as they may just occur in the future.I hope you were able to take something from the event.I personally found just after losing my wife, within days, i got a very subtle “sign” from her through a card in our local post office.I knew it was from her as it was the first card i picked up with her favourite animal on the front.I have often read that we all have the ability to be pysich, its being open to receiving ‘Signs” and messages from our loved ones or Angels. There are many times i literally feel all alone and feel really down then there are other times i may get a “sign “ to comfort me.
Jean i was interested to hear you went to a spritualist chuch. If i didnt live so far away and could drive i would be tempted to go.I am so pleased you felt a sense of calm, love and compassion. It really does help us to give us comfort to how we are feeling.Take care Jean.
Thanks brummy I went not expecting any messages but the feeling I had was so lovely I can’t describe it but I think peaceful is probably the best description
I can totally resinate with the feeling of calm. I think its sometimes the positive space of prayer. On the other hand I’ve felt similar when doing yoga and reki. Its getting your mind in that calm state clear if problemscs etc. I believe that’s what medium do before reading to help connect. I also agree everyone has the abilities and processes there spiritual side if they want.
Lyn, a lot of my problem i find is trying to “clear” my mind of all kinds of “stuff”, everyday worries and concerns which seem endless as well as my ongoing grief.Everything seems so hard now we are alone, physically alone , sometimes i feel spiritually my wife is sending me a “message’/sign”.today i was going to phone our labourrer/gardener to see if he could come the week i am off work next month to cut our trees and bushes. Then he rang. Some may say just a coincidence, but i like to think its a sort help from the other side.So many of the books i read make meditation sound so easy but i find it so hard.I am trying.I often just sit here in our living room turn off the Tv and just sit in the quiet, the problem is that often brings me tears longing to be with my dear wife.Take care.
Grief makes things hard the best of times. I struggle to do meditation on my own. Its more like a peaceful feeling that comes sometimes when I’m needing it,
I learned to do some meditation when getting reki which then led me to learn how to give reki. I was lucky to have good teachers.
Doing yoga in a class can help get a realxed mind . Like as previously said sometimes when im a spiritualist church I get peaceful feeling comes over I believe this is the power of our loved ones more than meditation its like the power of prayer but reaching out to our loved ones . Its like a calm which can come over you . I truly believe this is the healing from the other side.
I think everyone has a place they can feel more relaxed like a garden or walking somewhere nice so hopefully you can find some peace . I hope this helps its hard to explain
I think it’s easy to think signs and dreams are just coincidences. Where do you draw the line? If you believe that was a sign from my loved one in your gut then trust your gut. Some people say part of our souls are already in the afterlife therefore your loved one isn’t separated from you. Or they are here as well so still with us.
I had a dream of my mum and she told me she was right here and that we’d be reunited. She told me she was at my wedding when I asked her. I felt like I was asking her lots of questions and telling her I missed her. She was just answering, not asking me anything or saying she missed me. The part that felt the most real was when she held my hand, I really could feel her hand. Oh what I’d give to hold her hand and talk to her again and give her a hug.
Thank you Lyn for your explanation, it has helped me understand more.I will try to get to a spiritualist church sometime.unfortunatly there isnt one in the village, i have to travel by bus.Take care.
Zara, my mum passed away after a short unexpected battle with cancer a week ago. I take comfort in believing there is definitely more than this life. I don’t really have true faith but I do believe life is an energy that connects us all. Science doesn’t say there is nothing more than this, it says there is no evidence for or against. But the way I see it is we are physically made of elements, the base element being hydrogen…stars. When we die our physical being returns to its constituent elements and is absorbed back into the earth and the air and lives on for eternity. So the way I see it is why would that electrical pulse in us, the spirit, be any different? When your mother conceived you your life force, your spirit was lit, like one candle lighting another and so on for each generation. So it’s a fact your half your mum, half your dad, their DNA lives on in you and your kids as does their life force, their spirit, so they like all your ancestors are always with you because they are you. That’s primarily science not faith. Also when your loved ones pupils dilate at the end is that the end of their life force, spirit? Like a TV going off? I don’t think so, like the elements of their physical body return to the universe and the eternal, I think their energy, their life force…their spirit does too, to the energy, the omnipresence…god if you want that’s in everything. I think in life and death there are too many coincidences and I don’t think they are coincidences, they are fated, life’s energy, the spirit of loved ones guiding us to a time, place, a helping nudge. Nay sayers say you are looking for signs following loss but on the flip side others are blind to what’s around them. So for me your mums there with you, in you, and in everything around, in DNA and omnipresent. To me that’s not faith nor science, it’s reasoning. If you take things at an even lower evidential threshold, every contact leaves a trace, so everything your mum did in her life had a ripple effect that lives on in the world. So her as a person lives on in you and the world. Apologies I have rambled on but what I’m saying is we see everything from the human condition, a start and an end but we know there has never been a start or an end, how could there be? What happened before the big bang and evolution…. and that is why our minds are closed to the eternal life and the spirit. Take comfort in reason and the probability your mum is always with you in science and faith.
Well written and I broadly agree with you! As I’ve previously suggested, science is a method of enquiry and not a dogma. I feel we must also consider the strong possibility of reincarnation, as there is much evidence to support this. To my suspicious mind I often feel that the ‘powers that be’ want us to believe that the life we have ends at death. To me that notion is absurd! With regards, Kettie
Thank you all for your responses and insights. I’m not sure if I want to be reincarnated. All I want is to be reunited with my mother and for us and our loved ones to be together for eternity. If there’s a a guarantee of that then I’m content. The thing that sucks the most for me is that I’m only 29 and just married, which should be exciting but it’s really not without her. I’ve got maybe another 50 years left, that’s so long without her. That’s more years without her than with her. How am I supposed to just get on with life and have children etc when she’s not here? She’s my biggest champion. My best friend. She’s the only parent we have. My dad and uncles and aunties are all horrible people. We just had our mum. And now she’s gone
I know its not the same but she hasn’t gone. She is still your biggest fan and will see your children. I lost my husband too young and there is so much we won’t be able to do now. I’m just holding on to the fact him and my mam are still with us. Its been 3 years now for my mam and still miss her especially when you’re suffering. its the 2 people I needed most . But as described in much evidence there still with us. We will see them again and they will watch us live our life from heaven. I understand how difficult it is the pain can still be very much there. We just need to learn how to live with a different life we would have chosen. I do feel like there love and comfort is still there for us. Death can’t take that away, that for sure
@Hope23 your responses are very comforting. I can’t imagine what it must be like to lose a mother and a husband. I know I need to live for my husband and our future. I guess I have to live life the way we planned but just do it with this immense sadness. I don’t want the grief to go away because it’s my love for her and that will never be gone. I’ve been struggling and counting down the days until I’m 80 (my rough guess at end of life). I’ve got over 18000 days
Try not to torture yourself like that. I can resinate with the not letting go of grief because its like letting go of them. Im trying not to feel the sadness now when thinking about them because im worried that will disrespect there memory and the people they were. I truly believe you’re mam and my loved ones wouldn’t want us to go on suffering to keep them close but to try and get comfort from there memory, not grieving to the extent its makes us ill . It is difficult to get the balance because you can’t stop the grief at times its part of us now. But we should be able to stop torturing ourselves . I’ve thought i don’t want to live longer than i have been married to my husband because I can’t imagine living that long without him. But that’s probably not a healthy way to think. So I’m trying to take each day as it comes. Not feeling guilty if I start feeling OK , knowing that’s what our mothers would want for sure. What would your mam be saying to you right now .
I can’t imagine how you must feeling losing not one but two most precious people in your life. I can’t cope with one. I dont understand why this life is given if we’re all heading to the same place anyways? What’s the point? We’re not allowed to opt out of it and leave this life, that would be a crime. If this is all just a big old lesson then why can’t we just know that. Like when your sibling goes to school that they’ll be learning there and will be out the other end fine and with more knowledge and then I’ll be next. Since I’ve seen my sibling go through it I know it’s absolutely fine and nothing to be scared of. Why can’t we see the other side? I’m just so lost without her
I guess some people say they can see the otherside. I guess that’s what faith is all about. The signs you have been shown. I totally agree its unfair we can’t see them the way we could. Its not easy. I think your mother would be really proud of you .
I know my mam and husband are still with me . Just in a different way
It’s all just so tragic. I hope the afterlife pulls through something amazing with our loved ones and it’s forever. Because I think we are living in hell just now without them. I know my mum would tell me to cheer up and not to be sad but how can I not be? I just don’t get how I’m meant to live another 50 years without her
