Losing my hubby - who to talk to

Love it @Absent these people are SO rude and as @Claire2525 says above, they are lucky not to get punched!

Yes, it was over the phone, otherwise the PUNCH would have been a very strong temptation

Yes! it feels good. I hung up and blocked the woman on my phone - and I agree = let’s be the non PC widows. I don’t see why on top of everything we should put with some of the cr*p that people feel entitled to shove down our throats!

I’ve had people going on about when they lost their mums and dads and then there are the ones that go on and on about putting their dogs to sleep. I lost the love of my life, the man I spent 35 years who died suddently at age 60 of sudden cardiac arrest, buyt some people think that putting Rex to sleep after a happy dog life of 18 years is the same?

Also if I cry they say , “you are not coping very well, are you?” so they might as well get a bit of swearing from me for their trouble - why should they get away with abusing us widows?

An old friend visited today.

Had to gear usual crap!

How are you?

My reply ‘I’m saying ok cause that’s what you want to hear. No point in telling you as you have to live this to ubderstand’

Later he came out with I am alwats here for you.

My reply ‘ No you’re not. Noone is, noone can be. This is something I have to deal with, live with as none can be here 24/7 they have their own lives and I get that!. I am on my own!’

Honestly can’t listen to the shit anymore!

Anyway the rest of visit was fine. Talked about other stuff, Best stick to other topics, saves them coming out with the classic lines and me wanting to poke them in the eyes.

My plan and sticking to it at the moment!

Oh Absent, now that’s the best comeback ever! You definitely get the gold star!

I have honestly lost count of the number of times I’ve had to listen to the most stupid thick idiots on the planet, when they see me for the first time and immediately launch into their mum’s/dad’s cancer stories. One of them his mother in law, who was 88. I had to say ‘right am done now can’t listen to another word ’, left him high and dry. Couldn’t give a damn if he was offended, I’ll never see him again, hopefully!

And my moronic brother who is 71 years of age, going on about how he knows how I feel as his wife left him 12 years ago (I don’t blame her for leaving, and she was a piece of work too). Told me in a text I had a lot of living to do, everyone knows my loss is terrible but I’m young and I’ll heal. I was 55 when Ray died, he had just turned 60, 12 days before he died. It’s a year this Sat 17th. Most of my family are vile anyway! My niece had a 30th birthday party the night after Ray passed away, but still turned up to his funeral, they all hid it from me and I found out about it afterwards. Apparently she didn’t want to lose her deposit. Of course respect or empathy doesn’t come into it!

As Absent says, absolute twats! Rant over!

Absent , some of your posts have made me smile, something i very rarely do now after losing my dear wife in 2025.its so true what you have said.I lost my parents, my wife lost her parents but nothing can ever compare to losing our husband/wife/partner.they were the ones we deeply loved and spent nearly all our lives with.its the sadness, loneliness and feeling of emptyness i find so hard now upon this path i now walk, i have lost the person who was my world, my everything, i have lost our closeness, our hugs, our cuddles, just holding hands, all that has now gone, replaced by a feeling of groundhog days, just “plodding on”.I know my life and myself have changed forever but its the hand i have been dealt and as i say to my wife each day “i am trying my best, but its so hard”.Take care.

Soooo glad you’ve let that all out Fiona! Had a big feeling you were holding stuff in.

I know my un caring sister comparing this to her husband leaving her 30 years ago! He was having affairs! Honestly there is so much I could say about my relationship with her. I have walked away as she is toxic!

But I am not continuing to listen to rubbish. And if that means I continue down this path alone so be it!

I know you have that awful time approaching. It will no doubt be so flipping hard and you’ll think you are going to finally snap! It is the maddest world we now live!

I have just come through it. And the deepest hell it was I am creeping back. To what I can’t say but my head doesn’t feel like it’s going to explode at the moment.

Let out all that you need to here. If you are able.

X

Well I think we are sometimes so polite on here!

Honestly let’s give ourselves a break and just really say how it is.

And yes it is shocking some of the stuff I say to people but the only person I really cared about what they thought about me has gone! So what the hell! Sometimes it actually makes me smile insi2de too seeing their dump struck faces!

I think you are right. These people just “dont get it”.They havent got a clue. When i do my shopping i see all these happy old couples and i mean them no disrespect but i feel my wife was stolen from me.We should have been living our lives into our latter older years.Theres one thing for sure we dont get off this earth alive. One day these people who dont understand how we feel, they too one day will have to walk the path we are on now.The only certainty in life is taxes and death.

Maybe they won’t not everyone has loved and been loved truly like we have.

But one thing being on this site I can feel there are actually other poor sods that have had similiar or the same journey and lost a very precious person who can’t be replaced!

Also people that now find themselves completely on their own! Be that having un caring family or no family left!

Although I am foul mouthed and un filtered I am lucky in respects that I do have friends. Though obviously they have lives of their own and some days pass without seeing anyone.

But like you say days are ground hog days without our reason for being, being here!

Absent, you’re a breath of fresh air! Unleash all we’ve got, if we can’t do it here, where can we do it xx

Absent, I totally like you I say it as it is normally. I’m sick of people saying they couldn’t make the funeral. Thier legs weren’t broken, they weren’t dead. One lady came up to me at said funeral to explain what a terrible day she’d had because they’d had a flat tyre and one tyre was threaded. When I said well my husband still dead do don’t worry about it. Think she was offended. I don’t actually care

Hi, you’re correct in saying that family can let you down. I let my niece and her girlfriend stay in my old flat rent free just after my partner died suddenly. They didn’t look after it well, broke items and left it in a filthy condition. I couldn’t get my head around it, as it was so out of character for her. It was during the worst period of my life. Her mother, my sister complained that the electricity bills were too high despite the fact they were using the electricity. There seemed to be no empathy for me whatsoever. I have seen my niece in a different light now, it has hurt me greatly. Take care.
