Loss of our son aged 27

Hello Kate Deborah, Michelle Anne and Chris,

Kate you’re right we are not the same people, I talk out loud to Sam every day asking what does he think what shall I do? I get a reply…so even after all this time I know he is all around me. Just as he was starting to slip into a coma I said I love you Sam and he said …very softly but clear love you too. I know if I start crying or get upset Marmaduke (my cat) that Sam gave me for my 60th will come from wherever he iseven from upstairs and jump on my lap and start cuddlng into me so I know that is Sam doing that. Marmaduke will always stare intently the corner of the room where Sam always stood talking to me. Looking back I’m pretty certain Sam knew he was dying but tried to keep it from me to protect me, I was doing the same thing trying to protect him.

One thing is clear to me Sam would kick my butt if he thought I was wallowing in grief not getting on…he would be angry. I am absolutely certain, all our children would expect us to keep trying to enjoy bits of the life we have left.
**
We talk about them not because we’re stuck or havn’t moved on
We talk about them because they are ours and we are theirs and
no passage of time will change that.

with love
Helen

Dear Helen,
Lovely words  I agree with all that you say , also our dog Star does the same thing and just stops and stares at me for ages without moving and I say is that you Matt, some people think we are mad I know but I don’t care as these are definitely signs from our children, as I started to read your post Star came trotting down from upstairs just for a cuddle and then went back up again, she is 12 and has cancer but the chemo tablets and steroids are giving her a real boost, we just enjoy her while we can and Matt will soon have her all to himself
Much love Michelle xxx

I am sure you are so right about pets we don’t have any ,but Sarah has 2 Boston terriers and they are adorable , but Bailey seems to know when I go round if John or myself is feeling down he cuddles in ,. Just been to the pub with Johns sister and a couple of friends we sat in a booth with a heater very cosy . Had a glass of wine and out came the photos of Dawn , they come everywhere , but the friends I thiought was here we Vogel again , but Johns sister lost her grandchild 10 years ago and her husband 2 years later knows exactly how we feel . We don’t make a big issue about it , but sometimes want Dawn to to be with us . Does anyone else feel the same ? Love Maddie xx

Maddie, our pets, or their pets I should say are very tuned in to our feelings. We have had Jeeves, Lisa’s lab since she went on holiday and took ill. Now, we had looked after him many times when Lisa and Jamie went for a long weekend or when she was busy with weddings.
So, when she took ill and was transferred to Aberdeen, Jeeves wrecked a seat cushion of our lounge suite. He had never ever done anything like that. We were too worried and stressed to worry about it. However , it was so out of character. I really feel that he knew his much loved Mum was not coming back to get him.
Bless our lovely four legged fur babies.
Thankfully, Jeeves is so happy with us. Lots of long walks in the forests, big garden to play in too. He is 12 nearly and everyone thinks he is a young dog!
With love. Kate xx

He is a yellow lab. Lovely nature. We have another 3 of our own. German Pointer, Fix Red Lab and Black Lab.
My husband works the two other labs but the Pointer and Jeeves are retired. Keeps us fit though. Walk around 4 to 5 Miles a day.xxx

Dear Maddie, Kate and all,
We have Gemma’s dog, Elvis. She completely adored him and he went everywhere with her. We adore him too. Like yours, sometimes he will stop and stare and I am convinced he can see something we can’t. Also if I am upset or tearful he will come straight over and try to comfort me.
Sometimes he just sits and stares at me. Tiffany thinks that I remind him of Gemma as we are the same colouring and similar voices. Bless them xxx

Sometimes when I am walking the dogs, Jeeves will run ahead and then come back looking for me but at times he runs past me a few feet and is seeing something I can’t. I think he sees Lisa just behind me.xxx
